Kidney Stone Disease Explained, Foods to avoid

The kidney is one of the most important organs in the body. Its major function is to remove excess fluid and toxic chemicals from the body as urine and sweat. However, it is important to take care of your kidney because once it is damaged your risk of premature death will increase.

Kidney stones are hard, pebble-like pieces of material that form in one or both of your kidneys when high levels of certain minerals are in your urine. Though Kidney stones rarely cause permanent damage if treated by a health care specialist. Kidney stones vary in size and shape.

Most kidney stones pass out of the body in the urine. On occasion, a kidney stone can get stuck in a ureter and result in potentially serious, even life-threatening complications, such as kidney infection and kidney damage. In this article, I will be educating you on three things you should avoid too much intake of to prevent kidney stones disease.

Before I move further, here are some of the warning signs of kidney stones disease you should not ignore.

Pain in the back, belly, or side.

Pain or burning during urination. Urgent needs to go.

Blood in the urine.

Cloudy or smelly urine.

Going a small amount at a time.

Nausea and vomiting.

Fever and chills.

Kidney stone disease required medical attention as early as possible. Please do meet your doctor if you start feeling those symptoms above.

Processed Foods

If you eat a lot of sodium, which is an ingredient in salt, that raises the amount of calcium in your urine. Once you finish eating, any extra oxalate “sticks” to calcium in the kidneys. That can produce stones.

So limit canned foods, packaged meats, fast foods, and condiments in your diet. Processed foods are prepared by the application of different ingredients and preservative chemicals which can inversely affect the health of the kidneys.

Alcohol

The ethanol in alcohol is very bad because it can cause stones to build around the kidneys. When your body digests purine, it produces a waste product called uric acid.

A buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints can cause certain health issues. The main ones are kidney stones and a type of arthritis known as gout. The purpose of a low-purine diet is not to fully avoid purines.

Sugar

Fructose appears to increase urinary stone formation in part via effects on urate metabolism and urinary pH, and also via effects on oxalate. Fructose may be a contributing factor for the development of kidney stones in subjects with metabolic syndrome and those suffering from heat stress.

Furthermore, eating too much sugar can increase your risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, high sugar levels, obesity, and other related health conditions.
